Questions you might have if you're interested in playing it

Storyline

What is it exactly that you do in the game?

Like in most NSFW visual novels you click on stuff, read dialogue, make decisions over random choices that can sometimes pop-out on the screen… and obviously you watch NSFW short videos. This game has a somewhat serviceable choice system with lots of paths and secret scenes for you to discover. There is an amazing guide on the steam community tab that explains how this system works. I highly recommend you to check it out.

Will it make my eyes bleed?

For NSFW visual novels on steam, this is easily the best looking one that I have ever played. From the detailed and beautiful models, to the well-crafted backgrounds with amazing lighting, and the sublime short videos that elevate the story and characters of this game. This game is visually flawless.

The NSFW bits are amazing short animated loops with great jiggle physics and well animated poses. My only complaint is that the game doesn’t offer you anything interesting beyond standard sex poses among your character and a female NPC, with somewhat boring camera angles. But at least this game is “uncanny valley faces” free and that is a huge plus on my book.

Does it have a good story?

It’s quite good. Like I said before, it is a “Noir-Cyberpunk” story. It doesn’t do much with any of those settings but it has their moments. Something that I particularly liked and it’s why I’m praising the game’s story is that the characters are actually well written, have an actual personality and most of them react to your choices in a believable way.

Of course you will find yourself in a situation where the plot pauses in order to accommodate a sex scene and this hurts the writing and characterization of your female companions a bit. I think this is something that you can overlook in this type of games.

Something that you have to keep in mind is that this game tells a somewhat self-contained story with a beginning, middle and end, but it has a big cliffhanger at the end that can leave you dissatisfied. I think that liking the story and wanting to know more is a good problem for a game to have. So I still recommend the story of this game, even though it may feel “unresolved”.

Does it have a good soundtrack?

This is one of the very few NSFW visual novels that I have ever encounter that not only doesn’t steal copyrighted or used royalty free music. This game actually has a soundtrack that slaps.

It’s fantastic.

Does it have replay value?

This game has choices that lead to multiple outcomes, so that on its own adds lots of replayability value. But this game goes the extra mile giving you a secret collection of photos that you can find by just playing the game and paying close attention to the background. City of Broken Dreams also includes a “scene selector” that allows you to rewatch any of the NSFW scenes that you have unlocked in the main story.

Does it run well?

It runs flawlessly. There is not much else to say. It’s a game that is not very demanding and I didn’t have any problems with it.

Is it fun?

If you like this type of game, it’s really fun.

Is this game worth my hard earned money?

This is probably one of the best NSFW visual novels on steam that you can buy right now. It’s beautiful, well-crafted and charming. If you are looking for a visual novel that is more than just lewds and has good characters and a decent story. This is the game for you. Just be aware that this game ends on an unresolved cliffhanger.
