Drifting Kings
We’ve all played drifting games on so many devices and arcades. But now we have some real fun, drifting and racing in VR with your friends or against other people.
Or worst of all... Yourself.
The Game of The Play
In EXOcars you race for glory and time, either against other players, bots, or simply your own time record.
It’s recommended to go over to the training grounds so you’ll get the hang of how to drive your car. How the controls work and get the feel for how it feels inside, as you can only change the position of your body in the car within the main menu settings.
Of course, you can change your position in real life to have a better view or seating, but it will reset every time you do a re-run or enter a new match on another map.
When racing, you can first choose in the main menu single-player or multiplayer. For multiplayer, you can open a lobby and wait for other players to join or wait for someone to open a lobby.
For single-player, you can race against bots or other players who have already completed the track under a certain time (unsure of this).
And by finishing the track within a certain time count, you can earn more money from it, which you can use to either upgrade the parts of your car or purchase new skins for your helmet, gloves, or the body of the car.
Finishing a track will unlock the next map in line, and with any map, the player can choose what difficulty they want to drive on, which I think just puts more laps required to finish.
EXOcars contains a bunch of different maps, allowing you to drift around, have fun, and race your own time and your friends. As well as upgrading your car and making it faster, sturdier, and cooler.
Visual & Audio
Visuals
EXOcars have detailed structures and forms of everything; the car can collide with walls or objects if driven against a certain way or too close.
Helmets, gloves, and the car's body can get new looks of new colors that can be purchased in the shop.
The lighting and shaders fit nicely, and the maps are well made. There isn’t too much to say for a VR game, but the game does look good and fun to play, and the cars are detailed.
Audio
Only music within the game is in the lobby; during races, all you will hear is the sweet, sweet noises of the hot push irons roar as the rubber of the tires slides on the ground in the 90-degree corner. Music to one's ear.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Graphics - detailed & smooth
Large Variety of Maps
Customization ability
Car Upgrades
Physics (50/50)
Cons
Price (Bit high)
Audio
Controller tracking (Steering wheel errors)
My final little thoughts
EXOcars is fairly new and so far is having a pretty good start, not that many errors or anything bad overall. The cons I've named above are minor ones, and for the game as it is, it’s quite fun alone and probably even more fun with friends.
It gets very hot while driving for a certain time with the VR on your head, and you're just so concentrated on beating your old time and trying to find ways to go faster with your current upgrades.
The game is recommended, but the price is a bit much in my opinion, but if you’re a real racer, then I think the price wouldn’t be that much of a damage to the amount of fun you’ll have.
This review was based on playing on the VALVE INDEX VR PC and was quite compatible with the headset.
