Old Memories Reunite

A young soul moves into an apartment with extremely low rent, but after entering his new home, he quickly learns why the pay was so low. His new home is haunted by two women, a mother and her daughter. Both were quite beautiful but didn’t give off a good first impression.

Living alongside with them, taking care of their needs, with the only way out locked, all you can do is do detective work and find out how the two girls died?

Story - Content

Hollow Memories is an NSFW hand-drawn visual novel that tells the player the story about our protagonist, the ghosts trapped inside the apartment, and the rest of the people that you’ll meet in the game.

The game doesn't display a lot of the story itself. It forces the player to play minigames to unlock lore to progress the story itself.

Hollow Memories is built around seven events during a day, so depending on which event you're at, you can find the girls in different rooms, which leads to different sorts of lewd animations.

And an upgrade system to upgrade skills and unlock lewd scenes/animations. Points for upgrades or animations are gained by playing either one of two minigames, and after passing five levels of a minigame and you end/fail the minigame and return, a cutscene will occur, and you will progress with parts of the story.

The minigame mechanic isn’t working the best, as one of the minigames is easy to learn, and after learning how it works, one can play through multiple levels quite quickly and, for example, reach level one hundred after a few minutes, as it doesn’t automatically stop at a certain level but only once you fail.

By doing this, I managed to fully upgrade and unlock all animations & skills before even progressing the first part of the story.

Maxed-out skills can be reverted back into points. The only reason why this mechanic exists is to achieve the 2nd ending. All skills max upgraded will give the bad ending, while one certain skill not fully upgraded will give the good ending.

You also have Health Points and Stamina Points. The health points are for the minigames, as when you fail, it deals damage. Or when you meet the entity, it will strangle you, trying to kill you. And if you fail to get it off, it deals one health of damage.

Stamina points are used for the animations; depending on the level the girls are, that number of stamina is used for each animation.

Visual & Audio

Visuals

The art style and detailed lewd animations truly shocked me once I saw them while playing the game. It isn’t often that one sees such good, detailed, and smoothly drawn animations, characters, environments, and minigames.

The animations are different depending on the location in the apartment for both the girls. With the following rooms that they’re in depending on the time of the day:

Bedroom

Hallway (and stuck in the wall in the hallway)

Bathroom shower (or stuck in the washing machine)

Kitchen

Stuck in the TV in the living room

Each animation is very erotic and well made, and along with the added audio, it fits perfectly together.

Audio

Background music for the game is a mix between piano and a cosmic floating feeling (I know, it sounds weird but honestly is the best way I could explain it).

The music changes from different scenes throughout the gameplay and scenarios, so during more scary moments there could be a more horror/serious tone to the music.

The sound effects are surprisingly gentler to the ear than I suspected. Both doors creaking and floorboards being stepped on, too lewd sounds and actions that are heard during special scenes/events.

And that it isn’t only the same audio for every lewd action within the same category; each lewd action for each category almost all sounds different depending on which area/room they’re in, which one of the girls it’s being performed on, and which action/position/style.

Since during certain events/hours within a few places/rooms, one category can have more than one of the same actions but different positions/styles.

My final little thoughts

Hollow Memories has a unique game and art style. As mentioned earlier, the animations are very smooth and look very erotic too. (Even though some animations might be a bit too kinky and unspeakable.)

And its story-progressing mechanics are a bit broken, but the game itself is still worth playing its story and animations. I do highly recommend trying out Hollow Memories.
