You don’t have to be a fan of the Star Wars series to enjoy this masterpiece of a game. So feel relaxed and jump into the action.
There’s always a game that reminds you of multiple games mixed as one. And Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order isn’t a poles apart case. It depicts a blend between popular games like Death Stranding, Tomb Raider and Dark Souls/Sekiro. The stunning and highly detailed graphics from death stranding, smooth and player-friendly movement from tomb raider and overall challenging gameplay from Dark Souls and Sekiro. Each progressing level adds more fun to the overall game.
📝Story/Plot without spoilers:
There’s always a game that reminds you of multiple games mixed as one. And Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order isn’t a poles apart case. The stunning and highly detailed graphics from Death Stranding, smooth and player-friendly movement from Tomb Raider and overall challenging gameplay from Dark Souls and Sekiro. 🎮Gameplay:
The gameplay was truly amazing and engaging at each step. One of the best beginning mission that sucks you up in the action-packed gameplay. A normal day of metal scrapping and boom suddenly you are hanging from a floating ship, sliding through demolishing ship and falling into the mouth of a giant monster, and not just that, when you somehow evade the death, now you are getting attacked by the dark force. Does this excite you too? Well, then you should be ready with your gear to experience this madness.
Controls and Skill Tree-
Now for the deep-dive review, controls were smooth and easy to remember. However, the skill tree only includes attack variety or increasing health and force cap. You might end up with 30+ combos executable from the same buttons. It’s not too distracting as most players just stick to the same combos for the rest of the game, but interesting enough to grind and unlock. Apart from the skill tree, you also unlock controls at certain segments of the playthrough that help you revisit the planets and overcome the blocked paths.
Playthrough parameters-
Even though you have free will to visit any available planet, some of them are very linear. They are not open-world at all. Instead, they work as a web of paths fused together in challenging enemy wave clear areas. Not only that, it restricts you to explore further paths if you haven’t unlocked the required skill. This aspect is mostly player dependent. Some might feel the urge to progress and complete story missions in order to return to the same planet and step forward for exploration. But players like me might get annoyed, as we want to conquer the task fully before stepping on to the furthermore lands. Navigation was another tedious task. They were fulfilling the purpose, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gets overly confusing when you are required to travel through a path inter-joined at 3 different altitudes. Even though the game reveals secret hidden paths and shortcuts, while you are approaching your destination. Being at the border of the map and required to go all the way back to the ship was a nightmare.
Enemies and Presentation-
Cinematography literally bangs! Wide-angle captures of a gigantic structure or creature make you say wow. Level designing is surely a strong suit. Each level imposes a specific theme ranging from tropical forest, barren lands, and top facilities. Tropical theme was one of my favourite planet to traverse and find hidden chests. It was so humongous and can definitely work as a baseline for future Tarzan game.
As for the enemies, there was an ample variety with not much redundant behaviour. They were adequately doable and challenging. It also opens up your arsenal of combo attacks to conquer the enemy wave. It could have been better if the chests reward more customization except for the attire of player, companion, weapon and ship. Battling those extra enemies would have been much amusing. An overall good chunk of work with a favourable outcome.
📷 Graphics:
When I say they match the graphic level of Death Stranding, it means that’s an easy 10/10. A phenomenal showcase of rendering techniques that stands firm with the new-gen requirements. I tried really hard to find any leftover detailing on the map or interactives. But I am happy to say that each level was top-notch with near to no graphic failure. All the animations, player movements, especially the lightsaber, felt lively and boosted the immersive experience throughout the game. The only letdown for me was the same chest searching animation underwater. Now, as the cute little companion BD searches the loot chests for me, which results in shaking of the chest. But underwater, when you try to loot a chest, our BD doesn’t enter the chest. Instead, it stays on our shoulder, and the loot chest shakes itself. It would have been a complete triumph if they fixed this graphic neglection.
📝Main Pros and Cons:
Pros-
Top-notch graphics.
Amazing script and narration.
Linear yet immersive gameplay.
One of the best cinematography.
XP requirement for skill tree is same for all.
Each planet imposes sufficient amount of length and engaging puzzles.
Cons-
FPS drops.
Customization could have broaden up.
No replay value except the collectables.
Overpriced if you don’t play through EA play as the story is not that long.
🏷️Tips to new players:
During the first planet mission, you will have an option to go with the campaign or visit a red planet. Go with the red planet (Dathomir) if you want duel wielding a lightsaber. It has multiple swings with less damage, but honestly, it looks super cool. Grinding for echoes is very fruitful as it increases your stem (health kit) capacity.
✉️Miscellaneous Information:
Lightsaber-
Initially, you only have 3 colours to choose from, but after obtaining Kyber Crystal, you can unlock additional 5 colours. Blue, Green, Purple, Cyan, Magenta, Indigo, Yellow, Orange choose any that pleases your eyes.
BD1 behavior-
Our little companion resting on our shoulder might look like a tiny robot, but he is our vigorous support in this journey. BD1 can help you zipline, open loot chests, scan hidden messages and provide you stem (health kits) at every crucial moment. Monitor him whenever he jumps from your shoulder, shows there’s a scannable object nearby. It provides interesting facts about the thing besides some extra XP.
😇 Honest Rating:
I enjoyed my time with it, and you will too. Even though I am not a die-hard fan of Star Wars movies, as an amateur audience, I enjoyed each level providing me with thrill and immersive gameplay. I had time to experience this game throughout EA play, and I recommend the same to you. Traversing these stunning levels composed of high detailing was worth a while, and all this, along with a cute companion, made me super happy.
Rating: 9/10
May the force be with you.
