Rust Remix – VR Version
Enjoy playing Rust but love VR more? Try Strayed, which is almost the spitting image of Rust played in a virtual experience.
Is this even legal? They’re basically copying all features, structures, gameplay, and items from Rust?
Who knows, and who cares? It’s something that Rust never gave us, so someone did!
The Game of The Play
Strayed is very similar to Rust, and I mean a spitting replica of Rust.
I started thinking, could this even be legal? Are they actually breaking any laws? Does this count as copying someone else’s game?
Even with all these questions, the game is thriving and is getting much love from its players and continuously keeps posting major updates with more content and bug fixes.
The game in its current status is highly enjoyable, but there are still a large number of bugs, both small and big ones.
And learning every mechanic will take some time; most mechanics will be displayed or explained, but some are hidden and would need to be found by the player themselves.
Structures & Workbenches
When starting anew, you can build all core workbenches from your inventory crafting.
Like any game, you will need to gather resources either from your environment or from exploring structures.
Following is a list of workbenches/Interactable Structures – Basic For Start.
Workbench – Used for crafting better tools, guns, gunpowder, etc.
Forge – Used for smelting or cooking material and resources.
Resource Cabinet – The heart of your base, it keeps it alive when filled with required resources.
Chests – Storage.
Sleeping Bag – Respawn point for player; unfortunately, that’s all it does.
Research Bench – The only way to unlock the possibility for RPGs. (Rocket Propelled Grenades)
As mentioned above, the resource cabinet is required to maintain your base and its structures. If the cabinet is empty, then the structures will slowly decay until they break, so keep resources in for a healthy base.
But to even make a base, you’ll need two prior items: Blueprint & Wood.
The blueprint can be made within the inventory crafting and is required to be held in hand to select the structure you’d want to build. Or select what mode you need to use, such as destroy, upgrade, or pick up.
Health & Hunger
On your left wrist you’ll see a watch showing two bars (Health and Hunger). Though the only current food that the game offers to the player is apples, which are gathered from cutting trees.
Any other kind of food items or resources is unknown but might come in future updates.
Island & Map
The island got a map showcasing important monuments and depots, roads, and teammates. But the map isn’t the best, as when I first saw it, I thought the road was the island.
Simple improvements could have been done to the map, like adding an outer line for the actual island or maybe adding some rough details to mountains or forestry or anything at all really.
Depot & Monuments
Monuments hold boxes with higher-tier loot and other goodies that can be found; the game currently only contains a few but is getting new ones by the updates.
Depots are safe zones within the game where the player can trade, sell, or refine material. But be cautious; even if they cannot kill you within the zone, they can still take your stuff if you log out inside.
Visual & Audio
Visuals
The visuals, even at maxed settings, aren’t quite the best rendered or quality. But most items and buildings are pretty similar to Rust, or the items themselves resemble the Rust items more than their look and the look of Rust’s.
For VR physics, most things look good, and I haven’t seen any errors except for hands getting stuck against buildings or railings.
Since hands can help the player push themselves up on ledges or railings, they will also cause them to get stuck and not fix themselves after you’ve moved.
Basically, you’d need to walk back and move your hand(s) out of the way and continue on your way.
Audio
The game doesn’t have any music, but they have a good working proximity chat, where you can also mute your mic in-game.
There isn’t much to say about the audio, as it’s pretty much alike to Rust and just straight-up basic sounds. So, all I would say is the proximity chat is working great. (even though not everyone is friendly or opens their mics)
But it’s simply a blast and a fun way to talk to fellow players on the VR island.
Pros and Cons
Pros

Cons
Hand Colliding with Structures (Gets stuck a lot)

Price
My final little thoughts
Strayed is a fun VR game for either, people on Quest that doesn’t have a PC. Or people with PC VR who just enjoy VR games and who probably also like Rust and wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
Even with a bit of a hefty price tag, I would recommend trying out this game either alone or with friends. And if you go alone, I am sure you will meet a new friend faster then, sooner. (like I did, a very pleasant guy who helped me a bit, and I him)
