Such Androids Already Exist…
Alright, so imagine you're down bad, can't get a date, and instead of joining a dating app like a normal person, you decide to build your soulmate. That’s the chaotic energy this game brings to the table. It’s a short, quirky visual novel that mashes up science fiction, romantic confusion, and a bit of existential panic—all in under an hour. Oh, and did I mention it comes with multiple endings and a self-loving twist? Buckle in.
About This Game
Storyline
Meet Mathew: a college senior who’s had it up to here with rejection. Even his childhood crush, Masha, won’t give him the time of day. So, in true overachiever-meets-lonely-genius fashion, he builds an android girlfriend. Perfect plan, right? Well… not quite. The final script goes haywire, and instead of a dream girl, Mathew ends up with a male android clone of himself. Yep—his ideal partner ends up being... himself. Literally. What follows is a wild little ride that pokes fun at love, self-image, and all the awkwardness that comes with falling for your own reflection (yikes?).
Gameplay Mechanics
It’s a visual novel, so don’t expect puzzles or shootouts—this one’s all about clicking through dialogue and making choices. You’ve got three possible endings, and while your decisions do shape which one you get, most of the content stays the same. There’s partial voice acting, though it sometimes takes creative liberties with the script. Also, heads up: the animations don’t always line up with what’s going on in the dialogue, which can be a bit jarring. And the way the game visually represents Mathew in the adult scenes? Let’s just say it’s... unconventional. Think floating anatomy-level weird.
Visuals & Audio
Visually, the game’s pretty solid. Character designs are clean, and the artwork does its job setting the mood, whether it’s awkward, funny, or steamy. But the animations need a bit more polish—especially in the, ahem, adult scenes. On the audio side, the partial voice acting adds some flavor, even if it doesn’t match the text word-for-word. It's a mixed bag, but it keeps things interesting.
Pros
Genuinely funny and self-aware writing.
Super short, great for a quick playthrough.
Unique concept that plays with identity in a smart (and ridiculous) way.
Cons
Weird animation mismatches.
Choices don’t change much beyond the ending.
Adult scenes feel awkward and kind of unfinished.
Conclusion
Reboot My Heart is like that one weird rom-com you find on a streaming service at 2AM—it’s not perfect, but it’s oddly entertaining and makes you ask, “Wait, did he just fall in love with himself?” It’s short, silly, and has some genuine heart buried under the awkwardness. If you’re into visual novels with a twist (and don’t mind a little visual weirdness in your romance), give it a go. Just… maybe don’t take inspiration from Mathew’s dating strategy.
Rating: 8/10
Scary how our future is slowly aligning with this concept.
